AS Roma kicked off the Serie A season in style, brushing aside Fiorentina 4-0 at the Olimpico in a performance that was one-way traffic from start to finish. The standout moment was a man-of-the-match display from Donyell Malen, who ripped through the Viola defense for a first-half-to-second-half hat-trick and gave new boss Gianpiero Gasperini a dream start on the touchline.

Malen opened the scoring in the 27th minute, skipping past his marker before beating the keeper, then added two more in the second half, in the 52nd and 60th minutes. All three goals were set up by Paulo Dybala, who was the architect of the rout with a string of incisive passes. Niccolò Pisilli rounded things off late on to make it four, with Fiorentina barely able to muster a shot in reply.

For Roma, it's about as emphatic a statement as a new manager could ask for, launching the Gasperini era with a top-of-the-table start. Fiorentina, meanwhile, face an uncomfortable reset after being completely overrun on the road, with plenty of questions to answer before their next fixture.
