Danubio vs Peñarol

Peñarol left no doubt at Jardines del Hipódromo, thrashing Danubio 4-0 in matchday five of the Clausura. The visitors were comfortable throughout, but a blistering five-minute spell in the second half turned a routine win into a rout, played out in front of empty stands after security concerns forced the game behind closed doors. Leandro Umpiérrez opened the scoring in the 15th minute, converting a cross from Eduardo Darias. Danubio held on until Matías Arezo struck twice in the space of a minute, in the 54th and 55th, after missing earlier chances. Umpiérrez then completed his brace in the 59th, pouncing on a rebound. No cards marred the contest, just a total home collapse. For Peñarol, it was the perfect response to their Clásico defeat to Nacional, keeping them right in the title race near the top of the Annual Table. For Danubio, it is another gut punch in a miserable run, now 13 games without a win and sliding deeper into relegation trouble.
