Barcelona closed out preseason with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Al Ahly at a packed Spotify Camp Nou, claiming the 61st Joan Gamper Trophy in front of 54,224 fans. The hosts raced into control early, though Al Ahly, the first African club ever invited to the fixture, gave them a real second-half scare.
Hamza Abdelkarim opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing first-time off a Balde assist, before Raphinha doubled the lead from the penalty spot right before the break after winning the spot-kick himself. Al Ahly hit back through Zizo, who controlled superbly and beat Joan Garcia in the 51st minute. Late drama followed when Anthony Gordon won and then missed a penalty in the 89th minute, denied by goalkeeper El Shenawy.
The win rounds off Barcelona's preseason on a high before they open their La Liga title defense away at Elche, while Al Ahly can take pride in testing a European heavyweight before their own season resumes.
