Match Report
Fiji finally found their scoring touch at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, seeing off Papua New Guinea 2-0 for their first win of the MSG Prime Minister's Cup group stage. Captain Roy Krishna set the tone early, sending the home crowd into raptures with a composed spot-kick inside the opening 20 minutes.
Krishna opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, and Fiji doubled their advantage six minutes later when Sterling Vasconcellos struck in the 24th minute. The quickfire double left Papua New Guinea chasing the game for the remaining hour, and the visitors never found a way back into it.
The win lifts Fiji off the bottom of the group after an opening 3-3 draw and a 1-0 loss, keeping hopes of a top-two finish and a final spot alive. For Papua New Guinea, the defeat complicates their own push toward the final and hands momentum to their group rivals ahead of the last round.
