New England Revolution demolished FC Cincinnati 6-1 at Gillette Stadium in a record-tying home opener. Defender Brayan Ceballos stole the show with a first-half brace as the Revs matched a club record for goals in a regular season game.
Gerardo Valenzuela gave Cincinnati the lead in the 19th minute, but the hosts responded ruthlessly. Ceballos equalized on 25 minutes, Dor Turgeman made it 2-1 on 31, and Ceballos struck again in first-half stoppage time to send New England into the break three goals to the good.
Alhassan Yusuf headed home in the 53rd minute before Valenzuela's miserable afternoon was capped with a red card on 69 minutes. Griffin Yow (87') and Peyton Miller (89') piled on late to complete the rout.
It's a dream first victory for new coach Marko Mitrović, while FC Cincinnati face a long trip home to reflect on a chastening afternoon in Foxborough.
