Olympique Marseille vs Athletic Club

Marseille wrapped up their pre-season with a comfortable 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao at the Vélodrome, and it was Igor Paixão who stole the show, earning the man-of-the-match nod for the goal that put Marseille back on top. Angel Gomes got things going in just the 10th minute, pouncing after Pierre-Emile Højbjerg won the ball high up the pitch. Athletic Bilbao responded through Oier Sancet in the 34th minute, finishing off a driving run down the flank. Six minutes later, Paixão curled home from the edge of the box to restore the lead, and substitute Mmadi added a third in the 86th minute with a low finish from inside the area. Four yellow cards were dished out, but neither side saw red. Bruno Genesio used ten substitutes to test his squad depth, a promising sign with Marseille's Ligue 1 opener against Strasbourg on 21 August approaching. Athletic Bilbao now turn to fine-tuning ahead of their own season.
