Grêmio got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Vitória at the Arena do Grêmio on Wednesday night. An own goal from Camutanga in the 27th minute set the hosts on their way after a scramble from a deflected free kick. Francis Amuzu doubled the advantage eight minutes into the second half, latching onto a long ball from goalkeeper Weverton before coolly slotting past Lucas Arcanjo. The evening was marred by a serious ankle injury to captain Marlon, who had to be stretchered off by ambulance. VAR also played its part, chalking off a Grêmio penalty in the first half after initially awarding it. Vitória failed to register a single shot on target across the 90 minutes. The result lifts Grêmio to seventh on 11 points, just two behind fourth-placed Flamengo. Vitória slip to 13th with seven points as their inconsistent start to the season continues.
