Palmeiras vs Botafogo
Match Report
Palmeiras surged to the top of the Brasileirão with a 2-1 home win over Botafogo at the Allianz Parque. Allan opened the scoring in the ninth minute, setting the tone for a dominant display from the hosts.
Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Cristian Medina was sent off in the 43rd minute. Jhon Arias made it 2-0 early in the second half on 53 minutes, effectively killing the contest.
Danilo pulled one back in the 64th minute but refused to celebrate against his former club — a classy touch in a difficult night for Botafogo. Tempers flared after the final whistle, with Marlon Freitas involved in a heated exchange with several Palmeiras players.
The victory lifts Palmeiras to 16 points and top spot after São Paulo's loss at Atlético-MG. Botafogo, meanwhile, remain rooted in the relegation zone with just three points from seven games.
