Racing Santander claimed their first win of the season at El Sardinero, riding a first-half blitz to edge out Elche 3-2 in a match that got far more nervy than it should have. Moroccan forward Yassir Zabiri was the story of the night, single-handedly building a commanding lead before the hosts had to hang on. Zabiri opened the scoring by pouncing on a bad error from goalkeeper Matías Dituro, then doubled his tally around the 15th minute and completed his hat-trick near the 21st, putting Racing 3-0 up inside half an hour. Elche refused to fold, though, storming back in the second half through goals from Buba Sangaré and Fer Niño to make it 3-2 and set up a tense finish. Racing survived the late scare to bank a badly needed opening win, while Elche will be frustrated at squandering an early three-goal deficit almost entirely, taking some encouragement from their response but no points from Cantabria.
