Vitória climbed three places in the Brasileirão Serie A table after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mirassol at the Barradão on Saturday. Midfielder Baralhas struck the only goal of the game in the 27th minute with a stunning strike from the edge of the box.
The goal came after Ramon whipped in a cross from the left that was poorly cleared by Mirassol defender Willian Machado, and Baralhas pounced on the loose ball, firing into the top corner to leave goalkeeper Walter with no chance. A moment of real quality in an otherwise scrappy contest.
Mirassol pushed hard for an equalizer in the second half but found Lucas Arcanjo in inspired form between the posts for Vitória. The visitors racked up 13 shots but couldn't find a way through a disciplined backline.
The win takes Vitória up to 10th on 10 points, while Mirassol slip to 18th in the relegation zone with just six points from eight rounds.
